Many of the children have been struggling with mixing colours so we spent the week introducing, discussing and experimenting with basic colour theory. The children also had the opportunity to talk about how colours relate to their feelings and emotions.

The children were very proud to learn that the Ecuadorian flag is made up of the primary colours with its yellow, blue and red stripes. They were also quick to inform us that the colours are not only primary colours but the yellow signifies the sun and the gold of Ecuador, the blue signifies the sea and the red for the blood of their heroes who died in the struggle for the freedom of Ecuador. Lesson over.

We couldn´t resist playing this colour related classic. The children´s flexibility was incredible but sometimes their little limbs just were´t quite long enough.

Introducing art club in Sergio Toral.

For the passed few months we have been running a workshop in a new sector in Guayaquil for a group of around 15 children who live too far away to join any of the other art club sessions. They have been fantastic, really excited, appreciative and absolutely love to play games. Last week we played chinese whispers perhaps more appropriately known in Ecuador as ´el teléfono´. 

Flying high

Ecuador has an abundance of exotic birdlife with an impressive number of species endemic to the country. Inspired by photos of both the familiar and more exotic birds of Ecuador the children created watercolour murals, depicting birds sitting on telegraph wires, a familiar sight in Guayaquil. We were really impressed by their interpretations...

Made by hand in Ecuador

The children have been making flowers to say thank you to the long term sponsors of JUCONI and The Charlotte Miller Art Project. Each child drew around their hands and decorated the shape to make very individual flowers.

 The week also coincided with International Womens Day so many children made another flower to give to a special woman in their lives. There was a lot of glue, a lot of glitter and a lot of fun.
